Recognizing the intensifying legal service needs of immigrant communities, GCIR and the California Immigrant Integration Initiative (CIII) launched a study in 2019 to understand the capacity of immigration legal service providers in California and generate recommendations for philanthropic investment. This report offers recommendations to strengthen immigration legal services in California for immigrants and asylum seekers. The report draws from 20 interviews with executive-level staff from legal service organizations and 80 responses to an online survey of a broad range of immigration legal service providers across the state.
This brief provides an overview of the philanthropic response and documents best practices and lessons learned that can inform current and future efforts to address the needs of immigrants and refugees in California and across the nation.

GCIR is proud to share that after months of deep evaluation, final learnings from the California Dignity for Families Fund (CA DFF) are now published in our new report, “Providing Refuge & Restoring Dignity: Meeting the Needs of Migrants in a Networked Way.”
2022 was a year of continued growth and evolution for GCIR. We continued to expand our staff capacity—including adding new members to our talented programs team— and we leaned into our roles of convenor, amplifier, and mobilizer.
